Success for any group often depends on having good working relationships within the organization.  Businesses, governmental entities and other organizations all use facilitation for a wide variety of purposes.  

Boards:  Boards of Directors, and similar oversight groups, sometimes need assistance in making key decisions for their organizations.  A Facilitator can help design a process which can organize the discussion, ensure that all representatives have an opportunity to be heard, and assist the group in analyzing its options and in reaching decisions. 

Business Owners and Managers:  When a business is opening, growing, changing, or dissolving, many important decisions must be made at the top level.  Sometimes, sensitive issues such as fairness, authority, responsibilities, and benefits, may not be given as much attention as they need.  Facilitation can help Business Owners and Managers identify key issues, and address them thoroughly and objectively. 

Government:  Governmental entities typically must balance mandated activities with the difficult realities that arise when implementing laws and policies.  Facilitation can help government employees enhance coordination with one another, thus enabling a strong and unified presence when interacting with the public or with other governmental entities. 

Bridging Different Professions:  Within an organization, individuals with different types of professional expertise may need to work together.  Managers, accountants, attorneys, scientists, and other professionals, all may have their own perspectives on a particular problem, and their own vocabulary for evaluating the issue.  A Facilitator can assist professionals in communicating their perspectives to those outside their field, so that everyone can engage in productive dialogue. 

Complex Issues:  When the issues that need to be addressed are complex in nature, facilitation can help organize the discussions.  Facilitation is a particularly useful tool for breaking down complex issues into manageable pieces, and for helping the parties prioritize their objectives. 

Emotionally Charged Issues:  When emotions threaten to derail productive discussions, facilitation can provide a structured process for addressing the participants' concerns, and for redirecting their energy and passion into constructive dialogue. 

Building Teamwork:  Facilitation can help build teamwork by improving communication and relationships.  Understanding and recognizing the value of one another's unique strengths can help individuals work together much more effectively.  Including a teamwork-building workshop within a Retreat or other facilitation process not only can help build better relationships, but also can be fun. 

Bridging Cultural Differences:  When people come from different cultural backgrounds, disagreements are not uncommon.  Sometimes, differing assumptions and viewpoints can create or contribute to misunderstandings.  Facilitation can help the participants to better understand and communicate with one another. 

Sensitive Issues:  The facilitation process can create a respectful setting for open and honest discussion about sensitive issues. 

Large Groups:  When a large group needs to discuss an important issue, facilitation may be key.  A Facilitator can help design a process that ensures an opportunity for input from all group members, and that structures the discussions and the decision-making process to meet the group's goals.
